I was browsing through old art for ideas and I happened upon an old woodcut of mine. That got me all nostalgic for negative space, and one thing led to another, and I ended up playing around with black and white in Photoshop as if I were doing a real woodcut.
I think if I had used a base sketch, there wouldn't be so much hestiation in the lines, but I was so eager I ended up rocking this one freestyle. Next time, next time.
Raven, in bed, trying to get up with those massive wings on her back.
Thank you! I haven't done work without lines in quite some time, it was good to get some of the rust off.
You should try it! One of the exercises I did for an old printing class was to take black construction paper and make an image by cutting pieces of the black off with scissors and exacto knife. It sucks at first, but it helps you get the hang of thinking in terms of negative space
Last year in drawing & painting I did a linoleum print (think woodcuts...BUT WITH LINOLEUM!). It was pretty silly...a rabbit with carrots for ears XP I think I have some of the prints lying around somewhere.
