My response to week 14's prompt over at the 52 Comic Challenges site. Really, do check it out, it's fantastic practice.
I had to draw a comic without using square or rectangular panels. Pretty simple. I often get art block when I have to work on a formalist assignment ("shapes? check! what to draw in the shapes so they have a purpose? uh... no.") so I decided to do something totally fictional for a change.
The two ladies in question are Foyle (shorthair) and Monday (long hair) and they're reinacting a scene from my recently finished Nanovella. The action's really poorly portrayed/hard to follow, but I still like the way this page turned out. I think because I used my Japanese brushpen again and the lines are all purdy.
(My other 52 comic entries can be found on my comics blog, if you're curious)
Oh, I love this! Great response to the prompt, hon. As with most of your comics, this has really nice flow--the panel shapes don't detract from that at all; in fact they add some great moments of focus--but it also looks beautiful as a stand-alone piece.
Also *really* like your character designs! (And costuming! And name choices!)
Aw, thank you! I think I could be a little stronger on some of the visuals (drawig a sudden motion like tripping or falling is my achilles heel) but I'm so pleased that the flow works together on the whole.
A part of me totally wants to retell my nanowrimo as a comic for that very reason (the designs in my head attached to this story are very strong. To go with their wierd, wierd names). But... ambitions vs. time, you know how that is.
A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
